In the first image of the new year, I intended to capture images of the battered crater J Herschel (upper-right in this image) but continued capturing AVIs of the surrounding area, which I have combined to form this mosaic of the Western part of the Mare Frigoris.
The AVIs were captured through my home-made IR-pass filter with the ToUCam Pro on my 250mm f/4.8 newtonian and 5x Powermate. I stacked 200 frames from each of 4 AVIs using Registax 3. iMerge was used to construct the mosaic. In addition to J Herschel, another very battered crater, called South, is nearby. On the horizon, right on the edge of the shadow terminator, the edges of several craters can be seen including an isolated tip protruding through the shadow behind crater Babbage. Compare with my previous, wider, picture of this region. |
