This page shows some pictures of the setting sun. These were captured with my Canon EOS300D digital SLR camera fitted with a 300mm lens and no filter. They show what a good filter the atmosphere can be when the sun's light is passing through so much air. The second picture also shows how distortion makes the sun appear less round -- it's wider than it is high.
Each picture has been adjusted to show the colour of the sun more or less as it appeared to the eye. For this reason the earlier pictures, in which the sun was brighter, have been adjusted more and therefore appear darker.
